Dry Stone Walling 101

Finished dry stone wall after two day course

Seen here are the 7 students of a two day dry stone walling course, held at Landscape Ontario, standing behind their finished wall. They learned the basic rules and principals of building a dry stone wall, as well as a few helpful hints to take with them. The wall is 4.5 ft high and includes a vertical cheek-end, multiple through-stones, and vertical coping, all of which are tested for in the Level 2 / Intermediate Certification with the Dry Stone Walling Association of U.K. With a little practice each of these students have the knowledge to take part in the Level 1 / Beginner Certification with the DSWA UK.
Thanks to the gentlemen for their great work during the two days.

Dry Stone Walling 101

Dry stone walling is becoming a lost art and this is your opportunity to learn the basic principals of  this historic construction. In this two day course you will work hands on with your instructor, a Certified Waller, to build a section of wall with all the necessary characteristics of dry stone construction. This will include base stones, a vertical cheek-end, two lifts of stone, through stones and vertical coping.  There is no previous masonry or construction experience needed to take part.
